A terror attack in the Desa forests of Doda district, Jammu region, has resulted in the deaths of an Indian army officer and three soldiers. The firefight erupted late Monday when terrorists attacked a joint team of the Rashtriya Rifles and the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG). The clash marks the sixth major terror incident in the region this year.

The altercation began around 9 PM as the terrorists attempted to flee following an initial exchange of gunfire. Security forces pursued them through challenging terrain, leading to a prolonged firefight. Official confirmation from the army regarding the casualties is pending, although the 16 Corps acknowledged the ongoing operation and reported injuries on their X account.

This attack is part of a series of violent incidents in Jammu, including recent assaults in Doda and Kathua districts. Security forces, including the army, Central Reserve Police Force, and local police, have intensified their operations in response to the escalating threat, particularly in the Rajouri-Poonch sector.

The rising violence highlights the increasing activities of Pakistan-based terror groups in southern regions of the Pir Panjal mountains. In 2023, Indian security forces neutralized 71 terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, with a significant portion of the operations taking place in the Jammu region.
